The first time I visited Paete Catholic Church was already 10 years ago during our College Visita Iglesia. On 2012, me and my mom visited Paete again on our personal trip. My mom and I always have a Holy Week Church Visit itinerary during this season. This year, we decided to got to Paete.
We decided to take public transportation from our place in Cabuyao. From SM Calamba, there are Jeep and buses going to Sta. Cruz. In front of Sta. Cruz bus terminal, we rode a Jeep going to Paete.
It was really hot! (well April is a Summer Season). But our tiredness were all gone when we went inside the church. There are a lot of human size religious images. They have their own movable platform. Would you imagine, some of them were created as early as 1900's? Most were owned by families in Paete and were passed from generation to generations who continuously relive the tradition. Very amazing indeed!
Inside the church, I simply enjoyed taking photos (inside and outside of the church). While my mother is praying her novena and participating to the 7 last words. Also, there are also a lot of photographers during the event, so that increased my excitement to take more photos.
We starved, of course. We ate at the nearby restaurant Capati Kainan, a 24-hour restaurant. Since it was Holy Week, they only served foods that would help Catholics observe fasting and abstinence. We ordered and ate tofu steak, sarsyadong lapu-lapu, and ginataang tambakol. Well, I think I just observed there the abstinence part.
Next time, if I'll visit Paete again, I would love to go to the "Tatlong Krus" just a level 1 trek away from the church.
